To further promote the reform of engineering practice teaching and improve the quality and quantity of engineering training courses, on November 8, 2022, the Engineering Training Center held an innovative training department teaching seminar in the Artificial Intelligence Robot Training Room. Liu Peng, Deputy Director of the Engineering Training Center, Qu Xiaohai, Director of the Academic Affairs Office, directors of various training departments, and all teachers from 12 teaching modules of the Innovation Training Department attended the seminar. The meeting focused on three agenda items: optimizing the configuration of course modules, strengthening teachers' teaching abilities, and improving the quality of undergraduate education.。


At the beginning of the meeting, Deputy Director Liu Peng analyzed the new situation and challenges faced by engineering training, emphasizing the importance of teaching reform. He pointed out that the center must, on the basis of maintaining its original characteristics, implement various teaching arrangements, focus on promoting undergraduate teaching reform, firmly establish the foundation of characteristic practical education, deeply strengthen practical training links, and promote the continuous improvement of talent cultivation quality.


Minister Yang Yang of the Innovation Training Department shared with the attendees the basic situation of the department and the existing problems in various practical teaching modules. The Innovation Training Department currently has 12 course modules including intelligent manufacturing, 3D printing, and competitive robots, equipped with 23 teaching and guidance personnel. Based on the opinions of all teachers, Minister Yang Yang pointed out that the Innovation Training Department has major problems such as network connectivity, severe aging of a few devices, difficulty in ventilation leading to poor air flow, personnel shortage, and insufficient venues.


Subsequently, the attendees engaged in lively discussions on the construction of teaching facilities, curriculum arrangements, teaching management, personnel allocation, and other aspects. In response to issues such as network construction, aging and lack of equipment, teacher retirement, and insufficient venues, Liu Peng stated that engineering training is of great significance in cultivating students' practical innovation, scientific thinking, engineering quality, etc. In recent years, it has received strong support from schools. The above-mentioned problems encountered in the teaching process will be implemented one by one, and the schedule will be adjusted accordingly to solve them. Regarding issues such as course scheduling, Researcher Qu Xiaohai, Director of the Academic Affairs Office of the Center, stated that in the ongoing new round of teaching reform, the teaching objectives, tasks, and workload of each teaching module will be fully examined, and the center's curriculum construction will be vigorously strengthened; At the same time, in order to cope with the normalization of the epidemic and ensure the substantive equivalence of online and offline practical teaching, the center will continue to carry out online course construction to meet the changing teaching scenarios and high demand for teaching quality.

The seminar lasted for more than two hours, during which teachers actively discussed and expressed their opinions. Everyone unanimously agreed that engineering training and teaching are the key to improving the quality of talent cultivation, and the improvement of teachers' educational and teaching abilities is an effective help to comprehensively enhance students' comprehensive quality. The Engineering Training Center will continue to work together with teachers and students to solidly build professional practical training courses, strengthen the formation of practical innovation teams, consolidate the foundation of practical education, deepen the reform of undergraduate teaching in the center, and jointly promote the high-quality development of engineering practical education.
